Earnings Statements
An earnings statement showing your monthly and year-to-date benefit amount, deductions and withholdings, and net pay will be sent to your mailing address each month. To stop receiving an earnings statement, contact SJCERA.

Taxes
Your retirement allowance is subject to federal and state income tax. When you retired, you completed a Federal and State Withholding Certificate providing income tax withholding instructions. To change your federal and state tax withholding preferences submit a new Withholding Certificate to SJCERA. If you need assistance in determining which withholding category to select, please consult with a professional tax advisor. SJCERA does not provide tax advice.

SJCERA will issue an Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Form 1099-R to you by January 31 each year, for you to use in filing your taxes. SJCERA will report the Form 1099-R information to the IRS.

Deductions
You may elect to have the following deducted from your monthly retirement benefit: income taxes; retiree health, dental and/or vision insurance premiums; Retired Public Employees of San Joaquin County (RPESJC) dues; United Way contributions. To initiate or terminate a deduction, complete the appropriate form on the Forms and Publication page.

In addition, SJCERA may be required to withhold a portion of your monthly retirement allowance pursuant to a court order such as for spousal or child support, or tax levies.
